Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes.  We operate by appointment only.  Please contact us directly to check availability for custom cake orders, cake tastings & party room rental.
Do I need to make a deposit on my custom cake order?
As of April 9, 2013, payments on all custom special occasion cakes, wedding cakes and party room reservations are non refundable.
What form of payment do you accept?
We prefer check or cash, but can accept all major credit cards.
How far in advance should I order my custom cake?
We suggest at least two weeks notice.  We have placed an availability calendar on our site for your convenience and will update changes frequently.
Do you rent cake stands and toppers?
Yes.  We have different sized cake stands available for a deposit of $100. A $50 refund will be issued when it is returned in its clean, undamaged condition, within 3 days after your event. We have cake toppers available for rent or purchase.  Please call for pricing and availability.
If I pick up my cake a day before my function, will it be dry?
NO! We take great care in providing you with a moist cake.  Once your cake is iced or covered in fondant, it is protected and will not dry out. Natural fruit juices and macerations are soaked up by the cake  & we guarantee our quality.
Do you use a cake mix and store bought fillings?
NO! We use high quality ingredients and make every cake from scratch. The ONLY extras we purchase are LOCAL, no preservative added, jams and preserves to flavor our fillings and icings.
Can I put flowers or figurines on my cake?
While we prefer to make your cake start to finish, you may add your own final touches. We are NOT responsible for any damage caused after delivery or pickup.
I have special dietary restrictions, can you help me?
Absolutely! We offer gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free options.
Is everything on the cake edible?
We make all decorations out of edible products.  We will go over your custom designs to ensure you know where supports and non-edible structure are located.
Do you have cakes made I can stop by and pick up?
No.  All of our cakes are made as fresh as possible, so please call us to place an order. Sometimes, we can even fill your request the same day!
Do you only offer fancy cakes?
No.  While we really enjoy creating those, we want to be able to offer cakes for any ocassion.  Please call us for a simple birthday cake, dessert cake, or cupcakes!! Please see our 'MENU' page for pricing and flavors.
Can I send you a picture of the cake I want to have made?
Absolutely! We encourage you to send us your ideas.  If you have more than one picture, we can incorporate your favorite parts of each cake into a unique design. If you need help, we are more than happy to make you an original sketch.
There is an issue with my order, what do I do?
Please contact us immediately at 304-550-5055 or cakesbyappointment@nullgmail.com. Sometimes mistakes happen and we'll try to fix it! If your cake has been damaged there will be minimum fee of $50 for repairing it. No cash refunds will be given for any custom orders.
What flavor cakes are available?
Lots of different flavors are available.
What days are available for delivery?
We offer free delivery within 10 blocks of our shop at 1030 Quarrier Street, if our schedule permits. Please call for delivery quote outside of downtown.
